To enjoy, preserve, and promote our Norwegian heritage …
Our Chapter now has about 50 members, many who live outside Bosque County. Quite a few members grew up in the area and have fond memories of celebrating special holidays with their parents and grandparents. We are lucky in Bosque County to participate in many feasts (such as Lutefisk!) and other celebrations.
If you are interested in becoming a member of this organization, it is not required that you be of Norwegian descent, only that you will enjoy, preserve, and promote our Norwegian heritage. Become a member today! Print the Membership Form, and mail it in with your annual dues. Thanks!

The Peder Dahl House
In 1893, Norwegian-trained builder Johan Nordahl designed and built the Peder Dahl house, the last of seven houses built before his return to Norway. The site chosen for the house overlooks the Turkey Creek Valley and is high enough to take advantage of the prevailing south summer wind, providing circulation and cooling into this house as designed by Nordahl. After the advent of the railroad in Clifton in 1880, milled lumber was available at a reasonable price, and was used in the construction of the house.
The high-pitched eaves and polychrome decorative front gable is a unique style for Texas. In plan and form, the house is of the early symmetrical type characterized by a central porch. Downstairs, the house has a parlor, dining room, kitchen, sitting area, a bedroom, and three porches. A small bathroom was added in the early 1940s. Upstairs has four bedrooms and a balcony.
This house has been the site of weddings and/or wedding receptions of many generations of this family. In April, 2024, family and friends met to tour the house and grounds and to admire the recent repainting of the house’s exterior.
